MY THOUGHTS:
Although this book is part of a series it can also be read as a standalone. Having not read the previous book Primed For Revenge, I immediately got to grips with the history behind the two protagonists: Sydney and Walker, and their relationship. The novel is fast-paced and you are swept away with the events that occur. Early on in the novel Walker finds himself in a compromising position and is sent away to carry out a mission for the CIA, leaving Sydney with no explanation.
As the story unfolds, circumstance prevents the two protagonist in reuniting although fate has them in close proximity to one another and their lives seem to run parallel. I really enjoyed this element of the novel and the anticipation of them reuniting.
The novel is full of action and Bowen wastes no time in moving from one scene to the next, which adds pace and tension. I loved how the setting constantly changed from America, to China and the Caribbean. For me this heightened my enjoyment.
I am very intrigued to read the next book in the series and to find out the fate of the two protagonists. Thank you to Blackthorn Book Tours for inviting me to take part and to introducing me to the author Carolyn M. Bowen.
