SYNOPSIS:
Four Women. Four Confessions. One Murder. Something has gone terribly wrong at the Banks wedding. A man is dead. Four different women rush to offer confessions, each insisting that they committed the crime -- alone. Ginger is holding her family together by a thread, and this wedding weekend is not the fabulous getaway she anticipated. Kate has enough money to buy her way out of anything. Well, almost anything. Emily can't shake her reputation or her memories, and she's planning to drown this whole vacation in a bottle. Lulu's got ex-husbands to spare, and another on the way -- as soon as she figures out what the devil the current husband is up to behind her back. Why would they confess to the same murder? Only they know -- and they're not telling. This page-turning novel explores the depths of friendship and the truths we love to ignore.
My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed reading this book. It very much reminded me of the novel Big Little Lies which I had previous read and enjoyed.
I particularly loved the police transcript and the investigation that ran alongside the story line. I also enjoyed learning about the lives of the different women involved and how it was written from multiple points of view. Each woman had their own story to tell and it was interesting to see how they were perceived by others. Unfortunately, we live in a society that is quick to judge others and what was so refreshing was to delve into the lives of these individual women and hear about their own struggles and hangups. I honestly felt sympathetic towards all of them and could empathise with most of the characters. This allowed me to get deeper into the story and I found it hard to put down.
I did find it strange that we didn't hear from the bride once throughout the novel. It didn't detract my enjoyment from the novel but perhaps her perspective could have added another dimension to the story line?
There were a few twists along the way which I didn't foresee and these added to my overall enjoyment. I loved how the novel gave you a follow up at the end so that most of the issues were tied up. I would love to see a sequel as I felt I had connected with the characters on an emotional level and would like to hear more from them.
Overall a quick, easy read which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Many thanks to Rosanna Forte at Little, Brown UK for sending me a heatbound proof.
